Art - Learning about Kandinsky

I saw something similar to this on a pinterest post. We were learning about Kandinsky so I decided to do my own version. It turned out so great! My kids rocked this! Cutting out the black tree took FOREVER! However, it makes my class look so bright and cheerful I've decided it was worth the effort and I'm going to leave it up now until the end of the year.

  1. Your tree is so pretty! What a fun idea! I don't know Kandinsky, but this looks like Gustav Klimt's "Tree of Life" to me.

  2. Hi Jenni! You're the first person to comment on my new blog (construction still in progress). Thank you for your kind remarks. If you're a teacher, Kandinski is wonderful to teach in the classroom. He's very geometric in design so it's easy for the kids to 'copy'. It was my first time doing the tree and I've fallen in love with it. Not only me, but my kids love it too. Please stop by again. :)

  4. Beautiful! I am an elementary art teacher. We have done several Kandinsky works of art and kilmt's tree of life! I love this idea of combining the two and what a great result! Did they paint the circles?

  5. I repinned your tree to my art board. I was a 1st grade teacher for 32 years in N.C. Since retirement, I have opened an art studio, mostly for kids. I had not heard of Kandinsky art but am going to try it. Thanks for posting. Like your blog. If only we had pinterest when I was teaching. Such a GREAT way to get quick and easy ideas.

  6. The side benefit of the involvement in the creating of an artwork as lovely as this is that no doubt the children were taught something of the symbolism and meaning of the 'Tree of Life'. If it is OK with you I will likely put this on my website - TreeOfLife.net.au

  7. This is a beautiful take on Kandinsky's tree. I'm about to try it with a Year 5 and 6 class tomorrow. Please God it will keep them in their seats for an hour.

  9. I have looked everywhere, but I cannot find an actual work by Kandinsky called Tree of Life. Is this just using the circle art to make a tree or did Kandinsky actually paint a Tree of Life with circles? If he did, do you know where I can find it?
